Lesson 4: Advanced Tools and the Future of Your Blog

THE FUTUREEEEEE

Today we are going to go over more advanced settings and continue working on finishing our experience posts from last week on the Plains Indians Exhibition.

Tags are an important feature of WordPress. Just like tags identify clothing items in a store by a specific number or price, tags work to help give your content identification on the internet.

for more info on tags, check out these two posts here and here

I need to get my tags in order!

Links are extremely important too in posts when quoting another site or source. on how to add a link, click here!

WordPress also has built in sharing capabilities that make it really easy to post your WordPress content on sites like Twitter and Facebook. for a recap on how we added these in class and on what Socialize is click here

More info on other ways to host your blog after the jump!

Lesson 3: Advanced Post Construction

Today we are going to practice our skills of art writing yet again and try making some advanced posts. Were going to focus on documenting our experience in the galleries after returning to the classroom. This skill will be integral to the building of blog content in the future be it an art blog, a personal journal, or a public travel blog.

This week we will be working on building posts with things like galleries, slide shows, and adding captions to our images.

I just made a post like this on a local exhibition at Plug Projects that you can see here

Again just like last week here is a walkthrough tutorial on adding a gallery for future reference.

Today we will also learn about widgets. To get a recap on what widgets are for WordPress click here if you want to know more uses for widgets click here

Lastly as a class we will create an about me or about this blog page on our sites. If you want to add more pages after class click here for another walkthrough tutorial.

After the jump I have links to my favorite travel themed blogs, as this will be the theme for our week!
